Lasqueti Island

July 10th Saturday AM

At about 5:30 AM we pulled anchor, donned our sunglasses, and headed toward a blazing red sunrise. We figured today’s journey from Nanaimo to Lasqueti Island would take approximately 6 hours. The winds subsided last evening but the water in the Georgia Strait was still churning and would have been a rough ride without the deployment of the stabilizers. In the stormy sea the bow of the boat still pitched up and down but it was not an uncomfortable ride. From early childhood to sometime in my late thirties horses were a large part of my life and I spent substantial amounts of time riding. The up and down pitching of the boat reminds me of that rhythm (galloping or cantering) and I rather enjoy it. It is only the side-to-side roll that is bothersome and tends to dislodge anything on the counters and shelves sending it sliding to the floor. The stabilizers and ample amounts of museum gel greatly minimize the problem.
