July 5th, 2010 Canadian Gulf Islands
Following an evening of fireworks, we ended our stay in Roche Harbor this morning. We had smooth water and warm weather to Bedwell Harbour where we cleared Customs at the Canadian dock. Chris went through all of our paperwork and documentation at the office and then two customs officers promptly arrived on the dock to go through the boat looking for fruit, tobacco, firearms, alcohol, and anything else of concern. Finding none, they sent us on our way. As always, Tiki was neatly tucked away in my carry off bag.
We moved to the visitors dock at adjacent Poet’s Cove to purchase our fishing licenses for the year. For $119 each, we are legal to fish, crab, and shrimp our way through Canada.
Our next stop was our destination for the day, Wallace Island Marine Park. This is a beautiful tree covered island with a protected cove where we joined half a dozen other boats already at anchor and or stern tied. As we cruised in between the reef offshore and the Island, Chris pointed out a bald eagle perched boldly in a snag at the entrance to the cove. A nice greeting for such a beautiful and quiet spot.
Before dinner we took Max for a dinghy ride to shore for a bit of exploration and stick fetching. After dinner we went ashore to watch the sunset and have a glass of chocolate wine.(thank you Mark!) Life is good.
I washed a couple loads of laundry in the Wonder Washer today and hung them at the bow of the boat to sun dry. There is nothing like the fresh smell of sun dried clothes, even if they can be a bit stiff.
