Natural hot springs

Okay, today ranks right up there as one of the best days of the entire trip. We left Elcho Harbour, which was beautiful, collected our prawn traps and cruised by Sir Alexander Mackensie’s Rock to take a few photos. I cooked the prawns and made lunch while Chris drove us to our next destination, Eucott Bay.

I had been reading about the hot springs at Eucott Bay even before we crossed the Queen Charlotte Strait, and it has been on my list of places I wanted to go. And it was awesome! We were in the only boat in the bay and had the hot spring all to ourselves. Over the years people have piled rocks and added a few slabs of cement to make a “hot tub” at the shoreline where the hot, and I do mean hot, water runs down the mountain. There is a cedar slab in the tub forming a bench to sit on and a pipe with a wooden plug to reduce the amount of very hot water flow. A piece of garden hose takes surface water and runs it out the end toward the bay. It was amazing sitting in the hot water from the mountain and looking out on the bay where Sea Mist was anchored.

It reminded of a set from survivor and some kind of challenge reward.

After soaking, we sat on a big flat rock on shore near the tub and enjoyed a bottle of Chateau Bianca from Linda and Brian. Thanks guys!

While looking at the shoreline the natural spa is undetectable.
